“My body shall pass but my work shall go on. And my spirit shall live on. Even when I am taken away I shall work with you all for the deliverance of the world with the message of God. Prepare yourselves for the glory of God. Charge yourselves with the flame of Spirit.”
This month brings us together to honor the mahasamadhi’s, (a great yogi’s final conscious exit from the body) of both, our spiritual teacher, Paramahansa Yogananda, on Saturday March 7th, and his beloved guru, Swami Sri Yukteswar on Monday, March 9th, both begin at 7pm. These sacred ceremonies commemorate the lives and teachings that continue “for the deliverance of the world with the message of God. The divine friendship offered by Sri Yukteswar is expressed in his words to Paramahansa Yogananda, “I will be your friend from now to Eternity, no matter whether you are on the lowest mental plane or on the highest plane of wisdom. I will be your friend even if you should err, for then you will need my friendship more than at any other time.”
That promise is for us also, as disciples on the path of the Self Realization Fellowship teachings.
In March we welcome with joy, our new Minister in Charge, Brother Nakulananda, who has served at the Glendale Temple for many years and in the Temple Department at Mother Center. Brother Sattvanada, who has been our loyal and kind minister for over 2 years, introduced Brother Nakulananda to several devotees at the Service Day in February. We look forward to serving together with “the flame of Spirit.”
On February 8th, we participated in our annual One-day Retreat at the Temple, led by our Minister, Brother Tyagananda. Paramahansa Yogananda stated, “A retreat is a dynamo of silence where you may go for the exclusive purpose of being charged by the Infinite.” In the morning, we reviewed the Energization Exercises which Brother, who gave many helpful tips! He led us in a wonderfully uplifting meditation, with a review of the techniques. In the afternoon we heard Brother Anandamoy’s, recorded talk, “Making the Most of a Retreat”. A day well spent in the fellowship of other devotees, feeling refreshed and recharged by the Infinite!
Because our temple grounds are beautifully maintained, we can enjoy each day here as an oasis of peace and joy. We take a moment to honor those devotees who selflessly serve to maintain the grounds with love and care. The Maintenance Committee, led by Lee BenVau, had a wonderful day of Service on Saturday, February 15th. The Committee members include, Michael Bresnahan, John Peek, and Anthony Motiero served with lots of volunteers on maintenance and service cleaning projects, painting exterior stairs, repairing iron railings and the outdoor cleaning of walls, benches and statues. The newly installed beautiful 38 exterior Landscaping Lights and the sturdy new Lamp Post by the front side walk were reviewed by Brother Sattvananda and Brother Nakulanda.
Lena Johnson is honored for her dedication in researching the best lights for the temple.
The Brothers were also shown the completed re-roofing projects of all the buildings that will maintain them in the highest standard for the many years to come. Long time loyal devotee, Lee Ben Vau encourages others to join the Maintenance Committee for a wonderful Day of Service, followed by a relaxing meditation and delicious lunch at our next Service Day, March, 28th.
When Swami Sri Yukteswar appeared in the flesh to Paramahansa Yogananda on June 19, 1936, more than 3 months after his mahasamadhi he said “Grieve not for me…You and I shall smile together… Finally we shall merge as one in the Cosmic Beloved; our smiles shall be His smile, our unified song of joy vibrating throughout eternity to be broadcast to God-tuned souls!”. May we be receptive to feel the song of joy vibrating through us, as God-tuned souls.
